Second straight Stakes win for Aiming for Rio

First-crop daughter of Rio de la Plata lands Listed Prix Amandine at Maisons-Laffitte

Three-year-old filly Aiming for Rio became Rio de la Plata’s first ever runner, and winner, last May and since then has gone from strength to strength.

After bringing up a Black type double for her sire on 10 June when winning the Listed Prix Marchand d’Or, she followed up on 3 July with victory in the Listed Prix Amandine, run over seven furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte.

Settled on the rail under Mickael Barzalona, Aiming for Rio was always travelling well and asked to quicken with two furlongs out, she soon took the lead and won by three quarters of a length to record her fifth career victory, two of which she won as a juvenile.

Aiming for Rio was bred by Haras du Logis and Julian Ince before being purchased privately by Godolphin and is a granddaughter of the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Torgau.

Rio de la Plata has a higher Stakes wins to runs ratio than any other second-crop sire in Europe (with 100+). He is also sire of fellow Black type winner Thais, plus impressive multiple winners Silk Of Rio, Atkinson Grimshaw and Ocean Air.
