Second Stakes winner of the weekend for Sepoy

Khukri lands the Power Stakes at Navan to continue a successful spell for his sire; Voice Of Love (Poet's Voice) adds a fourth Stakes win to her record in the G3 Premio Ambrosiano

Sepoy enjoyed a tremendous season with his first European runners in 2016, recording no fewer than 20 individual winners and finishing the year as Britain’s leading first-season sire. His first crop are now reappearing and have already made a big impression, headed so far by yesterday’s G3 Fred Darling Stakes winner Dabyah.

Just a day later, Sepoy added another new Stakes winner when his son Khukri recorded an impressive victory in the six-furlong Power Stakes at Navan.

Jessica Harrington’s charge was settled off the early pace and improving his position to third with a furlong left to run, quickened up superbly close to home to win by three quarters of a length.

Khukri has never been out of the first three in his four career starts and broke his maiden at the Curragh last September.

Bred by Diomed Bloodstock Limited, Khukri is out of G1 E P Taylor Stakes winner Fraulein (Acatenango), now dam of three Black type winners and a further two winners.

Sepoy is now sire of 13 runners who have won or placed at Stakes level, including last Wednesday’s G3 Nell Gwyn Stakes second Unforgettable Filly, who like the aforementioned Dabyah, will now aim for Classic glory in the G1 1,000 Guineas in a fortnight’s time.

Also on Sunday, Poet's Voice's talented son Voice Of Love added a fourth Black type win and second victory at Group level to his record when taking the G3 Premio Ambrosiano in Milan.

The four-year-old was prominent throughout the ten-furlong contest and never seriously challenged, eased clear to win by a length and a half. This was his fifth career victory, with his other Stakes wins coming in the G3 Premio del Piazzale, the Listed Premio Campobello and the Listed Premio Marchese Ippolito Fassati.

Voice Of Love was bred in Ireland by Massimo Parri and is out of the Tale Of The Cat mare, Snowfield. Voice Of Love is a half-brother to multiple Stakes winner and Italian Derby third Time Chant. Voice Of Love’s second dam is Marina Duff, winner of the G3 Premio Dormello and Champion two-year-old filly in Italy.

Sepoy and Poet's Voice both stand at Dalham Hall Stud at fees of £15,000 and £8,000 respectively, October 1st SLF.
