Second G1 winner for Dubawi

Australian-bred Happy Archer lands Durban Thekwini Stakes

Dubawi’s sensational year continued in fine fashion on Saturday when two-year-old filly Happy Archer won the 1600m G1 Durban Thekwini Stakes on one of South Africa’s biggest race days to become her sire’s second top-flight winner.

Bred in Australia by Racetree, Happy Archer is a daughter of the Jeune mare So Tempted, whose three-year-old daughter by Shamardal won the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet and finished runner-up in the G3 Doomben Roses earlier this year in Queensland.

Dubawi’s top performers this year include the 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi, last weekend’s G2 Prix Robert Papin winner Irish Field and the dual Italian Classic winner Worthadd. With his eldest runners just three, he has already sired nine Group winners and three Listed winners. In 2009, Dubawi was the leading first-season sire in Europe with 34 individual winners.
