Second G1 victory for son of Slickly

Meandre runs out the impressive winner of the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud

Slickly’s four-year-old son Meandre, who landed the G1 Grand Prix de Paris last July, recorded his first victory of 2012 in the best possible style on 24 June, landing the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.

Settled in third position under Maxime Guyon, Meandre was asked to quicken two furlongs from home and soon moved past his rivals and ran on superbly to win by a length from Shareta, with Galikova and Arc winner Danedream taking third and fourth respectively.

Owned and bred by the Rothschild family, Meandre is the first foal to race out of the Black type performer Penne. This family has enjoyed further success with Slickly, as Penne’s half-sister Tendre Pensee is dam of another of his Stakes winners in Gris Tendre (who added further Black type to his record today when third in the Prix Ridgway at the same course).

Slickly, who has been a consistently high-class sire in France thanks to his robust performers, is also sire of G2 winner and G1 performer Gris de Gris, and a further 17 Black type performers.
