Scottish lands the G3 Strensall Stakes in style

Teofilo records his second Group winner in as many days

Teofilo’s consistent son Scottish added a first victory at Group level to his record in impressive fashion on 20 August, running out the easy winner of the G3 Strensall Stakes.

Never far from the pace under William Buick, Charlie Appleby’s charge took up the running with a furlong left and never looked like being caught as he ran on superbly to win by a length and a quarter, setting a new track record in the process.

Scottish has now won or placed in nine of his 11 starts and has not been out of the first three this year.

Bred by Knocktoran Stud, Scottish is one of eight winners out of multiple Stakes winner Zeiting and is a full brother to fellow Group winner Royal Empire. The mare herself is a half sister to Madany, dam of Teofilo’s 2,000 Guineas and Dewhurst Stakes second Massaat.

Teofilo has sired 26 individual Black type performers so far this year including six horses who have won or placed at G1 level, headed by G1 Al Maktoum Challenge R3 hero Special Fighter and G1 Australian Guineas winner Palentino. Only yesterday, his son Quest For More put up a tremendous performance to land the G2 Lonsdale Cup, also at York.

Teofilo was also a popular choice at the recent Arqana August Yearling Sale, averaging a very healthy €252,500.
