Sand Vixen flies to G2 victory

Daughter of Dubawi takes the Flying Childers Stakes in record time to become her sire’s first Group winner

Europe’s leading first-season sire Dubawi recorded his first Group winner in tremendous style on 11 September when his daughter Sand Vixen (pictured, courtesy of www.godolphin.com) stormed to a record-breaking victory in the G2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster.

Settled off the fast early pace, the Godolphin filly travelled beautifully throughout. Switched to the outside with a furlong left to run, Sand Vixen showed an impressive turn of foot and took the five-furlong contest by a length from Bould Mover. Her winning time of 58.1 seconds was 0.36 seconds faster than the previous juvenile course record, set by this year's July Cup winner Fleeting Spirit two years ago.

This was her second Black type win, following her victory in the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury last month. She will now head to the six-furlong G1 Cheveley Park Stakes, due to take place at Newmarket on 2 October.

Also on Friday at Doncaster, Tiger Hill's three-year-old son Darley Sun finished a creditable second in the G2 Doncaster Cup, whilst two-year-old filly Hibaayeb (Singspiel) was beaten just half a length in the one-mile May Hill Stakes.
