Sabie salutes in Pewsey

Two-year-old Exceed And Excel filly becomes the 45th Stakes winner for her sire with victory in Australia

A last start third in the Blue Diamond Preview for fillies, Exceed And Excel juvenile Sabie recorded a strong win in the Listed Pewsey Vale Stakes over 1050m at Morphettville, Australia, on March 12.

Sitting outside the favourite throughout the run, the Anthony Freedman-trained filly produced the goods for jockey Kerrin McEvoy in the final 100m to record her third career win, and first at Stakes level, from just four starts to date.

Out of the Snippets mare Rondavel, Sabie was bred by Darley and joins Graskop and Anakaret as the third Stakes horse for the mare. Rondavel has a yearling colt by Exceed And Excel and was covered by Lonhro’s Australian-based G1-winning son Denman during the lastest breeding season.

Interestingly, the Champion sprinter Exceed And Excel has provided the winners of the Pewsey Vale Stakes for three of the past four years, with Koala Bear and Baby Corn being the other previous winners.

The sire of 45 Stakes winners globally, Exceed And Excel enjoyed a banner year in 2011, through the exploits of the European G1-winners Excelebration and Margot Did and since 2008, when his first juveniles hit the track, he has sired more than twice the number of Royal Ascot Stakes two-year-olds than any other stallion. He will stand the this season at Dalham Hall Stud for a fee of £22,500, SLF.
