Royal Marine lands G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere

Son of Raven’s Pass sweeps to victory at Longchamp

Kildangan Stud stalwart Raven’s Pass recorded his first G1 winner in superb style on Sunday, 7 October when his two-year-old son Royal Marine took the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day at Longchamp.

Settled in second position under Oisin Murphy, Saeed bin Suroor’s charge reeled in long-time leader Broome in the home straight and got up to win by a neck.

Royal Marine is out of the Singspiel mare Inner Secret, also dam of Dubawi’s Stakes-winning daughter Crystal River and Group-placed Exceed And Excel colt Secret Ambition. Royal Marine’s second dam is Mysterial, who has produced G1 winners Dubai Destination and Librettist, plus Raven’s Pass’s G2 winner Secret Number.

Raven’s Pass, who sires an excellent nine per cent Stakes winners to foals, is also sire this year of G2-winning sprinter Raven’s Lady, multiple Japanese Group winner and G1-placed colt Tower Of London, plus Nisreen, who landed the Listed Prix Dahlia just two days ago.
