Rebel’s Romance has been a truly outstanding flagbearer for both Dubawi and Godolphin, and on Thursday 9 July he took his tally of Group wins to no fewer than 17 when landing the G2 Princess Of Wales’s Stakes on Newmarket’s July course.
Content to bowl along under William Buick behind stablemate Arabian Crown for much of the one-and-a-half-mile contest, the evergreen eight-year-old showed he has still got it as he simply eased past his rivals to take up the running inside the final two furlongs. Arabian Crown fought back close to the line but Rebel’s Romance always had the measure of him as he maintained his lead by just enough, eventually winning by half a length.
A Godolphin homebred, Rebel’s Romance is out by the Street Cry mare Minidress, who has also produced the fellow G1 winner Measured Time.
Dubawi, Britain’s greatest ever stallion, has sired 320 individual Black Type winners, of which 204 have won at Group level and 64 in G1s. His legacy is secure with his stallion sons excelling around the world including Champion sire Night Of Thunder, and Ghaiyyath, who currently have a 2027 nomination each up for auction at Darley Winning bid, which are open for bidding until Monday.
