Pure Excellence excels at Newmarket

Daughter of Exceed And Excel lands the Listed Montrose Fillies' Stakes to become the latest 2yo Stakes winner for her sire

Exceed And Excel, renowned for siring talented juveniles, recorded his ninth 2yo Black type performer of 2012 on 3 November when Pure Excellence took the Listed Montrose Fillies’ Stakes, run over a mile at Newmarket.

Always prominent under Joe Fanning, the Mark Johnston-trained filly dug in determinedly close to home, outbattling Desert Image to win by a length and a half.

Bred by Peter Harris, Pure Excellence is out of the winning Spectrum mare Albavilla, herself a half-sister to Listed winner and G2 performer Barolo.

Exceed And Excel has now sired five Stakes-winning juveniles in 2012, including G2 Richmond Stakes winner Heavy Metal, plus G3 Molecomb and Cornwallis Stakes winner Bungle Inthejungle.
