Profitable gets off the mark in style

First-season sire records his first winner with his very first runner as Thunder Love is victorious at Kempton

Freshman sire Profitable wasted little time in opening his winner’s account when his first ever runner, Thunder Love, won in convincing fashion at Kempton on Wednesday, 31 March.

The George Boughy-trained filly broke from the stalls well and was settled just behind the decent early pace under jockey Rossa Ryan. Once asked to quicken, she soon took up the running and moved clear of her rivals to win the five-furlong contest by three and a quarter lengths.

Bred by Mickley Stud, Thunder Love becomes the sixth winner out of the Stakes-winning Mark Of Esteem mare Nantyglo, who was also third in the G2 Mill Reef as a juvenile. They hail from a superb female family that includes Cerulean Sky (dam of Honolulu), Moonstone (dam of Nelson and US Army Ranger), Diner de Lune and l’Ancresse.

Profitable won his own maiden at two by almost three lengths, before going on to win the G1 King’s Stand at Royal Ascot and become Invincible Spirit’s best sprinting son. He has been extremely well supported since retiring to stud, where he stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland at a fee of €10,000 Oct 1, SLF.
