Plein Air goes gate-to-wire to take the Astra Stakes

Daughter of Manduro finds the winner’s circle in her North American debut

Plein Air made her first start in North America a successful one with a wire-to-wire victory in the twelve-furlong Astra Stakes at Santa Anita.

Based in Italy during the earlier part of her career, the Irish-bred daughter of Manduro has been nothing but consistent, winning eight of 11 career starts and finishing in the money 10 times.

Breaking alertly under jockey Tyler Baze, Plein Air took command at the break and never looked back, eventually pulling away to win under a hand-ride.

Bred in Ireland by Allevamento Deni Effev, Plein Air is out Too In Love, an unraced daughter of Galileo. Plein Air is a half-sister to Close Your Eyes, winner of the Listed Premio Criterium Femminile.

Manduro is sire of six G1 winners to date, including Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere hero Ultra, who will stand alongside his sire at Haras du Logis in 2018.
