Pleascach a Classic success for Teofilo

Daughter of Teofilo shows her class to triumph in the Irish 1,000 Guineas

Pleascach showed all her class and grit to triumph in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh on Sunday to become another Classic winner at the Curragh for her sire Teofilo.

Bred and trained by Jim Bolger and running in the colours of his wife Jackie, Pleascach travelled prominently throughout the 1m contest and quickened well to draw away from her 17 rivals. Danger loomed in the form of the hot favourite Found who flew home on the wide outside, but Pleascach had enough left to repel the challenge and win by half a length. Following a stewards enquiry, the placing remained unaltered.

A maiden winner at two, Pleascach first caught the eye this season when second in the Listed Salsabil Stakes in April, before resuming winning ways on her next start in the G3 Blue Wind Stakes over 1m2f at Naas 12 days ago. Following the race, Bolger told reporters that a tilt at the Irish Derby could be on the cards for the filly, with the Irish Oaks also likely to feature in her plans.

Teofilo has already enjoyed Classic success at the Curragh with his Irish Derby winner Trading Leather and the Irish St Leger heroine Voleuse de Coeurs, and Pleascach became his sixth G1 winner to date. The filly, bred by Bolger out of a daughter of a half-sister to the dam of the Breeders' Cup winner Spain, is the ninth Stakes winner worldwide for her sire this year, with Teofilo's victories also including the very exciting juvenile Round Two who scored in the Listed Marble Hill Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday.
