Plain sailing for Harry’s Yacht in Chester Manifold

Well deserved first Stakes win for son of Harry Angel

Harry Angel sprinter/miler Harry’s Yacht scored a well-deserved breakthrough Stakes victory on Thursday, 5 November, winning the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes with a tough on-pace performance.

In taking out the one-mile Stakes race on Oaks day at Flemington, the Leon and Troy Corstens and Will Larkin-trained gelding has been a tremendous money spinner for his owner/breeders having won nine races and amassed almost A$1 million in prize money.

The Chester Manifold win, his first at Black Type level after two previous placings, makes him Harry Angel’s 26th individual Stakes winner

Larkin said the Listed win Harry’s Yacht, who ran fourth in the Five Diamonds Prelude at Randwick on his last start, wasn’t before time.

“When Just Folk came out of the race, it looked like there was no speed on paper. A few times he's been very frustrating when we were back in slow run races and just haven't been able to really run as well as we thought he was going,” Larkin said.

“He went up to Sydney, ran really well last start, came back very well and the mile was the question mark for our going in so we knew that if we were up there on a slower tempo, he should be able to run it out.”

Harry Angel is also sire this year of two Stakes-winning juveniles in Europe, an unbeaten filly in Evenfall and Stewards Cup’ hero Evening Saigon, while his yearlings have sold for up to 160,000gns.
