Outstanding results for Sepoy at Gold Coast Yearling Sale

The first-season sire record tumbles as his filly makes A$850,000

The first Australian yearlings by the multiple G1 winner Sepoy earned rave reviews at Wednesday's opening session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in Australia, with a filly by the Champion sprinter topping the day’s trade when purchased for A$850,000 by the China Horse Club, a sales record for a first-season stallion.

The filly, who was consigned by Mill Park as agent, is the first foal out of the Stakes-winning Starcraft mare Celebrity Girl from a strong Black type family.

Six yearlings by Sepoy were sold during the opening session of the Gold Coast sale for an aggregate of A$2,205,000 and an average of A$367,500, nearly six times the stud fee they were conceived at, comparing very favourably with the overall sale average of A$166,679.

The highest-priced Sepoy colt during the session was purchased by David Raphael for A$460,000 and is a half-brother to two Black type performers including the useful Exceed And Excel filly Miss Idyllic.

Reverse shuttler Exceed And Excel also had two of his yearlings sold, headed by a colt out of the Stakes-placed mare Ambers Waltz who was purchased by James Harron for A$200,000.

The sale continues tomorrow.

Sepoy stands at Dalham Hall Stud where his fee will be £15,000 in 2015. For more information, contact the nominations team on +44 (0)1638 730070.
