Outstanding Ombudsman wins his second consecutive G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes

Night Of Thunder’s superstar son dominates once again at Royal Ascot

Night Of Thunder’s sensational start to Royal Ascot continued in superb style on Wednesday, 17 June when his son and future Darley stallion Ombudsman became the first horse in over 30 years to win back-to-back renewals of the G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained five-year-old was dropped in at the rear of the field under William Buick while his pacemaker Devil’s Advocate ensured there was a fair pace up front. Angled out rounding the final turn, Ombudsman came with a powerful run down the home straight to take the lead a furlong and a half out. Once in front, there was simply no stopping him as he eased clear of his rivals, eventually winning by four lengths from Minnie Hauk, with Arc winner Daryz a further length and three quarters further back in third.

Ombudsman now has seven Black Type victories to his name, including this year’s G1 Dubai Turf and the 2025 G1 Juddmonte International. A wonderfully consistent performer, he has never finished outside of the first two. He could now head back to York in a bid to retain his Juddmonte title.

Bred by James Hanly and a 340,000gns yearling, Ombudsman is a son of the winning Dansili mare Syndicate, a half-sister to two Stakes winners.

Night Of Thunder has now sired a sensational three G1 winners at this year's Royal Ascot, following Ten Bob Tony’s victory in the Queen Anne yesterday, the same day that Bow Echo remained unbeaten when landing the St James’s Palace Stakes.

The reigning Champion Sire has 11 G1 winners to his name and recorded his first G1 winner as a broodmare sire recently when Thundering On took the Oaks at Epsom.
