Old Persian determined winner of Listed Fairway Stakes

Darley-sired exacta as son of Dubawi repels late bid from Court House (Dawn Approach) to earn first Stakes victory

Old Persian earned his first Stakes victory when he held off the stubborn Court House (Dawn Approach) to take the Listed Fairway Stakes at Newmarket by a half-length 19 May.

The victory was the fourth win from seven lifetime starts for the three-year-old son of Dubawi, who was most recently second in the Listed Newmarket Stakes over the same course two weeks ago.

Patiently ridden by jockey William Buick, Old Persian stalked leader Department Of War from second through the early stages of race. Old Persian then assumed the lead two furlongs from the wire and was able to turn back the bid of Court House in the late stages to notch the victory.

Old Persian races as a homebred for Godolphin, and is out of Indian Petal, a daughter of Champion Singspiel. Indian Petal is a full sister to Silkwood, winner of the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes, and a half-sister to G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner, Silent Honor.

Dubawi has sired 27 horses who have won or placed at Black Type level so far this year, headed by G1 winners Benbatl and North America. He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £250,000 Oct 1, SLF.
