Notable Speech ran down Deterministic in the final furlong to get the victory in the $1 million, G1 Woodbine Mile on Saturday, 12 September.
The five-year-old son of Dubawi, who was winning the Woodbine Mile for the second straight year, earned an automatic, fees-paid berth in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland, where he will attempt to defend his title Oct. 31
At the start it was Deterministic that was sent straight to the lead, where he did so while setting a comfortable pace of :24.36 and :47.89 for the opening half-mile. Gas Me Up (by Hard Spun) raced in second, as jockey William Buick content to let Notable Speech rate in fifth.
Turning for home, Deterministic continued to show the way on the lead, but Notable Speech was revving up for the stretch drive while racing five-wide. Notable Speech came with a furious rally through the stretch to sweep past Deterministic in deep stretch to win easily by a length-and-a-half. Deterministic held second, with Gas Me Up taking third.
Notable Speech was bred by Godolphin from the mare Swift Rose (Invincible Spirit), herself a half-sister to G3 winner Desert Wisdom (Dubawi) and Grade 1 heroine Wild Beauty (Frankel).
Dubawi led all stallions by yearling average in 2025, for the fifth consecutive year. He has sired 50 yearlings that have realized £1m plus in the sales ring - a European record.
