Night Of Thunder’s superb season continues

Cloud Cover adds a second Black Type victory to her record in Queen Charlotte Fillies' Stakes

Night Of Thunder is enjoying an outstanding year, siring an unrivalled four individual G1 winners including record-breaking Prince Of Wales’s Stakes hero Ombudsman.

On Tuesday, 1 July his daughter Cloud Cover recorded her second Stakes success with a facile win in the £100,000 Queen Charlotte Fillies' Stakes at Chelmsford.

The James Tate-trained mare was settled on the rail in mid division, before being switched out inside the final two furlongs. Once asked for her effort, she skipped clear of her rivals to win easily by two lengths from Fair Point (Farhh). Now an eight-time winner, she will likely head to Goodwood next for the G3 Oak Tree Stakes.

Cloud Cover was bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and is one of three winners out of the unraced Street Cry mare Hokkaido. The dam is herself a half-sister to Dubawi’s G1 winner Sobetsu and is from the family of Raven’s Pass’s outstanding sprinter and now Darley Japan sire Tower Of London.

Night Of Thunder is currently leading sire in Britain and Ireland by prize money, with the aforementioned Ombudsman lining up in a very strong renewal of the G1 Eclipse this Saturday. He is also sire this year of 1,000 Guineas winner Desert Flower, plus US top-flight winners Choisya and Dynamic Pricing.
