Night Of Thunder’s exceptional three-year-old filly Desert Flower extended her unbeaten record to five wins from five starts, landing a second G1 in great style in the 1,000 Guineas over a mile at Newmarket on Sunday, 4 May.
The Charlie Appleby-trained filly jumped sharply from the stalls under William Buick and set an even gallop before being asked for her effort two furlongs out. Finding plenty under pressure, she went on to win comfortably by a length.

Desert Flower was an exceptional two-year-old, remaining unbeaten in four starts including victories in the G1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket and G2 May Hill Stakes at Doncaster. Charlie Appleby stated after the race that the filly could step up to a mile and a half for the G1 Oaks at Epsom on her next start.
The Godolphin homebred is the second foal out of the G2 winning mare Promising Run (Hard Spun), making her a three-parts sister to Dubawi’s G3 Solario Stakes winner Aablan. Promising Run’s dam Aviacion was a winner of the G1 Grande Premio Zelia Gonzaga Peixoto da Gavea in Brazil.
Desert Flower’s victory continued an excellent day for the sire with his daughter Sunly earlier landing the Listed Prix de la Seine to remain unbeaten herself.
Night Of Thunder's incredible day was capped by Dynamic Pricing's win in the G3 Beaugay Stakes at Belmont At The Big A. The four-year-old filly was making her eighth start having already captured the G2 Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs, and showed a great turn of foot to win the extended mile contest in impressive fashion.
Night Of Thunder has established himself as one of the most exciting stallions in the world. To date, he has sired six individual G1 winners, and 63 individual Stakes winners, including 2024 Irish Champion Stakes winner Economics and four-time G1-winning sprinter Highfield Princess.
