Night Of Thunder sires another new Stakes winner in Ireland

Mauiewowie victorious in Listed Curragh Stakes

Night Of Thunder’s juvenile daughter Mauiewowie, who is owned by Eleanora Kennedy, battled gamely to the line to earn her first Stakes victory on Saturday, 13 August in the Listed Curragh Stakes at the Curragh.

The two-year-old filly who is trained by Ger Lyons was prominent throughout the race under Colin Keane before joining the leaders under two furlongs out, she then challenged Treasure Trove in a head-to-head tussle to win by a short head in the five furlong contest.

Mauiewowie made a promising start to her career when winning her maiden at Naas at the beginning of July, before returning to the same track just over two weeks later to finish second in Listed company. She holds an entry for the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in September.

Bred by Trebles Holford Farm Thoroughbreds, the well-related Mauiewowie is out of the Holy Roman Emperor-mare La Chapelle, herself a half-sister to Ghaiyyath, Champion Older Horse in Europe in 2020 and Zhukova who was Champion Older Female in Europe. They are out of Nightime who was crowned Broodmare of the Year in Ireland in 2020.

Night Of Thunder’s successful season continues, having last night sired a new Group winner when three-time Listed heroine Rumbles Of Thunder claimed the G3 Give Thanks Stakes at Cork. Last weekend his five-year-old daughter Highfield Princess was victorious in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest.
