New winner for Teofilo

Well-bred Spartilla is his sire’s 18th scorer of the year

Spartilla gave owner/breeder John Ellis an early Christmas present when recording his first victory at Southwell on 22 December and becoming the 18th winner for his first-season sire Teofilo.

Out of the Group-winning sprinter Wunders Dream, by Averti, Spartilla has now made four racecourse starts and joins the G1 Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall and G3 Tyros Stakes winner Remember Alexander on Teofilo’s list of successful first-crop runners.

Other winners for the sire include the Listed scorers Black Arrow and Teolane, plus the 105p-rated Mezmaar, who has won twice in three starts.

This year, Teofilo’s yearlings made up to €305,000 and set an average of €86,000 for 55 sold. He stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for a fee of €25,000, October 1, Special Live Foal.
