New Stakes winner for Manduro

Buckwheat victorious in the Prix Ridgway at Chantilly

Manduro recorded a new Black type winner on 24 June, when his three-year-old son Buckwheat landed the 10.5f Listed Prix Ridgway at Chantilly.

Settled in second position under Maxime Guyon, Buckwheat was asked to quicken once entering the home straight and kept to his task well to win by three-quarters of a length. This was the second start for the Andre Fabre-trained colt, who was beaten just a short head on his racecourse debut on 22 May.

Bred by Darley, Buckwheat is out of the G2 winner and G1 Irish Oaks second Russian Snows, who has now produced five Black type performers. Russian Snows is herself a daughter of G1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Arctique Royale and is from a superb family packed with G1 winners.

Manduro has now sired seven Black type performers so far this year, including Italian Oaks winner Charity Line, and fellow Group performers Global Bang and Bonfire.
