New stakes winner for Exceed And Excel

Excelltastic lands the Listed Adelaide Guineas whilst Mrs Kipling finishes second in a G2; new black type performer for Kheleyf and Stakes winner for Singspiel

Exceed And Excel added another Stakes winner to his CV on Saturday when Excelltastic landed the Listed Adelaide Guineas at Morphettville.

Having won at two, the Peter Moody-trained colt has improved at three and went into the race already boasting a G1 place, when third in the Spring Champion Stakes. He has now won three races and has only been out of the first four once in a 12-race career.

Bred by Darley Australia, he is out of the Lear Fan mare Fantail and a close relative of US G1 scorer Dreams Galore.

There was more success for Exceed And Excel in the US on Saturday when his juvenile Listed scorer Mrs Kipling only failed by half-a-length to land the G2 Providencia Stakes at Santa Anita.

Bred by J Osborne, this was her first start in the US having formerly been trained by Simon Callaghan in Newmarket. She is out of the Japanese-bred Carnegie mare Quinzey, who also has a full-brother yearling to Mrs Kipling.

Fellow second-crop sire Kheleyf sired a new Stakes horse on Saturday, when Deposer finished second in the Listed International Trial Stakes on the Lingfield Polytrack.

Highly tried as a juvenile by his trainer John Best, he ran some admirable races including a gallant fourth in the G1 Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland when only just behind leading Kentucky Derby candidate Pioneerof The Nile.

Bred by Mrs G P Booth and John Porteous, he is out of the Zamindar mare Bezant, who also has a full-sister two-year-old to Deposer named Weeping Willow.

At Golden Gate on Saturday, Singspiel mare Restless Soul recorded her first victory at Stakes level when landing the Listed Yerba Buena Stakes.

Bred by Charles Cyzer, she is out of the Stakes-placed mare Seasonal Splendour and a half-sister to two Group placed performers, When In Rome and Strength 'N Honour.
