New Stakes winner for Exceed And Excel

Canali becomes the 28th Stakes winner for his sire when victorious in the Summer Scorcher in Australia

Exceed And Excel recorded his 28th individual Stakes winner in fantastic style when his son Canali produced a brilliant front-running display to take the Listed Summer Scorcher at Ascot, Australia by three-quarters of a length on January 1.

Showing tremendous speed, reminiscent of his dual G1-winning sire, the four-year-old was dominant throughout the five-furlong contest and finished strongly to win by just under a length.

Bred by Bart Cummings, Canali is out of the Stakes-placed Barathea mare Angora, making him a half-brother to the Stakes-placced Fantastic Light gelding Vilayet.

Exceed And Excel, who will stand the upcoming breeding season at a fee of £12,000 at Dalham Hall Stud, is also sire of G1 winner Reward For Effort and recorded no fewer than 26 individual Black type performers in 2010.
