A new Stakes winner for Authorized

Pounamu celebrates victory in the Listed Detonator Stakes

Pounamu, a consistent son of Authorized, landed the Listed Detonator Stakes at Ascot on 25 February, claiming his maiden black-type victory. This was the fourth consecutive win for the talented Group-placed five-year-old.

The Alan Mathews-trained gelding settled towards the tail-end of the field in the early stages and weaving his way through the inside, he began to make his move coming into the straight, drawing clear to secure a dominant win.

Bred by JL Thompson, Pounamu is out of the winning Street Cry mare Tangiwai, who is a daughter of Stakes winner Lahar.

Pounamu is one of 28 individual Stakes winners for his sire, joining Maygrove, Signoff and Elite Army as well as Australia’s top-rated male performer Hartnell.

Authorized stands at Haras du Logis, Normandy at a fee of €10,000.
