A new marvel arrives at Glastonbury

Another foal born for the five-time G1-winning Champion New Approach

The third reported southern hemisphere-born colt for the undefeated European Champion two-year-old New Approach was foaled down at Glastonbury Farm late in the evening of 11 August.

Out of the G2-performed Mary Marvel, a half-sister to G1 winners Tuesday Joy (Carnegie) and Sunday Joy, the colt is from one of the most prolific black-type producing families in the Australian Stud book. A member of the famed Denise’s Joy family, the colt is closely related to G1 winners More Joyous, Miss Danehill, Joie De Grise, Arlington Road, Euphoria, Bentley Biscuit and Thorn Park.

Glastonbury Farm Stud Manager Duncan Grimley described the colt as, “A very nice and strong colt, very much in the mould of his sire. We are extremely happy with the quality of this colt.”

With three New Approach foals born so far this season, there are still a large number of quality mares to foal down including G1 winners She’s Archie, Star Shiraz and Zagalia; the dams of G1 winners Fashions Afield, Fiumicino and Marble Halls; as well as the daughters of G1 winners Horlicks, Camino Rose and Ha Ha; plus sisters or half-sisters to G1 winners Lonhro, Eremein, Universal Prince, Arena and Guineas.

With the Sadler’s Wells sire line experiencing a tremendous run at present in the southern hemisphere, producing more G1 winners in the last racing season than any other, Danehill’s excepted, it is no surprise that not only New Approach (pictured), but also fellow Darley stallions Authorized and Teofilo are in high demand.

An undefeated Champion two-year-old, Epsom Derby hero and holder of Newmarket’s 2000m track record, New Approach will cover his second book of mares this season at Darley’s Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 including GST.
