Lazuli bounces back to win G3 World Trophy Stakes

Lazuli, a three-year-old son of Dubawi, added a first Group win on Saturday, 19 September when taking the G3 World Trophy Stakes at Newbury. After a couple of below par runs following a convincing victory in the Listed Scurry Stakes back in June, the Charlie Appleby trained three-year-old bounced back to form, staying on well in the final furlong to win by a length.

A Godolphin homebred, Lazuli is a half-brother to the Listed-winning Inspiriter out of the Stakes-winning Fasilyev mare Floristry. She is a half-sister to the G3-winning miler Zibelina out of a half-sister to G2 Dante Stakes hero and multiple G1-placed Carlton House. Lazuli’s third dam is the G2 Sun Chariot winner and G2 Ribblesdale placed Talented.

Lazuli is the 14th individual Group winner this season for his outstanding sire and the second in the space of two days following Fonthill Abbey’s victory in the G3 Prix Bertrand de Tarragon on Friday. Dubawi is the sire of 43 individual G1 winners including three striking at the highest level this year, with his sensational son Ghaiyyath securing three G1 victories alone this season.
