New Group winner for Dubawi caps a memorable Saturday

Almanaar takes Prix Paul de Moussac

Dubawi opened a truly magnificent day on the racecourse for the Darley stallions with Srikandi’s G1 victory in Australia, so it was fitting that he brought it to a successful conclusion when recording a new Group winner in Almanaar.

The Shadwell homebred swept home in the G3 Prix Paul de Moussac (run over a mile at Chantilly) to record his second straight Stakes win.

Almanaar is out of the G1-placed mare Baqah, who is also dam of Cape Cross’s multiple winner Funon.

Dubawi has now sired no fewer than 15 individual Group winners this year, including an astounding six who have won at G1 level. On Friday his daughter Arabian Queen took the G3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes to open a remarkable Epsom meeting for the Darley stallions that saw Arod (Teofilo) land the Diomed Stakes, followed by victory in the Woodcote for Exceed And Excel’s smart juvenile Buratino. Golden Horn was of course the star of the weekend, storming home to provide his sire Cape Cross with a second Derby winner.
