New G1 winner for Dubawi

Al Husn prevails in thrilling renewal of the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood

Champion sire Dubawi added a new G1 winner to his already outstanding record on Thursday 3 August when his four-year-old daughter Al Husn ran out the sensational winner of the Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Smartly away, Al Husn was settled just behind the early leader under Jim Crowley, before moving up alongside Above The Curve two furlongs out. The Roger Varian-trained filly put up a tremendous battle in the closing stages to win by half a length, with multiple G1 winner Nashwa taking third.

The ever-improving Al Husn has now won seven of her 10 career starts, including a first Group victory (where she beat Nashwa for the first time) in the G3 Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes at Newcastle at the end of last month. Today’s victory was her third straight Black Type win, having also landed the Listed Rothesay Stakes in May.

A Shadwell Stud homebred, Al Husn is out of the Listed-winning G1 Prix de l’Opera third Hadaatha (Sea The Stars), herself a daughter of English 1,000 Guineas third Hathrah.

Dubawi has now sired no fewer than 54 G1 winners, including six who also stand on the European Darley roster: Night Of Thunder, Too Darn Hot, Ghaiyyath, Space Blues, Naval Crown and Postponed.
