New Black type winner for Exceed And Excel

Spin Cycle lands the Rous Stakes on the first day of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting

Exceed And Excel recorded his sixth individual Black type winner of the year on 1 October when Spin Cycle landed the Listed Rous Stakes on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile.

Settled off the fast early pace set by Noble Storm, the Bryan Smart-trained colt came with a determined run from two furlongs out and battled well to take the five-furlong contest by a neck.

Bred by Mrs Lisa Kelly, Spin Cycle is out of the Spinning World mare Spinamix, who has produced three Black type performers from three foals to race.

Exceed And Excel is also sire this year of Dick Poole Stakes winner Shamandar, who won the valuable Watership Down Stud Sales race last week; and G3 winner Mrs Kipling. He has also been enjoying another successful year with his juveniles and is currently leading sire of two-year-olds in Britain and Ireland by number of winners.
