The unstoppable form of the progeny of Teofilo produced another Australian G1 winner when Happy Clapper raced away with the Epsom Handicap at Randwick on 30 September.
Happy Clapper is Teofilo’s fifth Australian G1 winner, joining Humidor, Sonntag, Palentino and Darley stallion Kermadec.
Humidor scored the second of his two G1 wins earlier this month in the Makybe Diva Stakes and is one of the most prominent entries in next month’s G1 Caulfield Cup.
On a day in which another son of Teofilo won a Listed race, the Godolphin colt Ataraxia, Happy Clapper scored a victory that crowned an illustrious career.
One of the most consistent horses in training, Happy Clapper had endured the insurmountable task of challenging the champion filly Winx having chased her home in five of her 20 wins.
But in the Epsom there was no nemesis, as Happy Clapper asserted himself at the 200m and safely holding off Tom Melbourne to win by a half-a-length.
The seven-year-old had already won at G2 and G3 level before his Epsom success which took his racetrack earnings beyond A$3 million, making him Teofilo’s greatest money winner.
Bred by his owner Michael Thomas, Happy Clappper is out of the Encosta De Lago mare Busking, a winning half-sister to the G3 winner Thankgodyou’rehere.
