Modern Games thunders home to win G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile

Globetrotting Dubawi colt earns Breeders’ Cup honors for second straight year

Modern Games added yet another G1 victory to his already glowing resume as he charged down the center of the course on his way to posting a three-quarter length victory in the G1 FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland on Saturday, 5 November.

The three-year-old Dubawi colt has found tremendous success on the international stage, beginning last year when capturing the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. Since then, Modern Games has also won the G1 Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp and the G1 Ricoh Woodbine Mile.

Modern Games hopped at the break and was off a step slow but was able to establish a spot in mid-pack as Smooth Like Straight and Pogo zipped through the early stages of the contest. Modern Games moved into a striking position on the far turn before swinging out wide at the top of the lane for a clear run.

The compact chestnut showed an impressive turn of foot as he rocketed home to defeat Shirl’s Speight easily. Kinross overcame a bad outside post to just taking second from Shirl’s Speight by a nose.

Bred in Ireland by Godolphin, Modern Games is out of the New Approach mare, Modern Ideals, herself a half-sister to fellow Darley stallion and G1 winner Ultra.

Dubawi has sired 43 Stakes winners this season, seven have won at the highest level including Naval Crown (G1 Platinum Jubilee Stakes), Guineas winner Coroebus, dual German G1 winner Rebel’s Romance and St Leger hero Eldar Eldarov.
