Mickdaam lands the G3 Chester Vase

Son of Dubawi provides his sire with his 24th Group winner and could now head for the Derby

Mickdaam, a three-year-old son of Dubawi who has already been making headlines this year thanks to his success in the Listed Al Bastakiya in Dubai, took his first Pattern race in gutsy fashion when winning the G3 Chester Vase.

Settled in fourth position under jockey Tony Hamilton, Mickdaam was asked to quicken approaching the final turn and kept to his task tremendously well, outbattling Model Pupil in the closing stages to win by a nose. Call To Battle, by fellow Darley stallion King’s Best, also put up a game performance to finish third.

Trained by Richard Fahey, this was the third victory for Mickdaam, who also represented Mike de Kock’s stable while in Dubai, where he gained his first Black type win and was also fourth in the UAE Derby. He is now likely to take his chance at Epsom next month, where he will bid to become the ninth G1 winner for his sire.

Outstanding sire Dubawi has now sired 24 individual Group winners. This year alone he has sired eight Stakes winners and a further 11 horses that have been placed at Stakes level, including four G1 performers.
