Mary Tudor reigns supreme at Navan

Daughter of Dawn Approach easily takes the Listed Salsabil Stakes

Mary Tudor, from the first crop of 2,000 Guineas hero Dawn Approach, gained her first career victory on Sunday, 22 April when impressing in the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan. Always travelling sweetly in the ten-furlong contest, she was briefly denied a run in the straight but when switched, she quickened impressively to record a two-and-a-half-length victory over Iffraaj’s daughter Hazel Bay, who ran a remarkable race to finish second on her first career start.

Mary Tudor is the third winner to bred out of the French Group-filly Antiquities after Ancient History (Shamardal) and Turning Times. From the top-class female family of Street Cry, Shamaral and G1-winning miler Territories, Antiquities also has a yearling colt by Shamardal and is due to give birth later this month to New Approach.

Dawn Approach is the sire of five first-crop Stakes performers including the unbeaten G3-winning filly Musis Amica, who landed the G3 Prix de la Grotte last weekend at Longchamp. His second crop has also started very well through Naas winner Dadoozdart and Mater Matuta, who was only beaten a short-head on debut earlier in the day at Navan. He is covering this season at a fee of €20,000 Oct 1, SLF.
