First Group win for two-year-old son of Dawn Approach

Poetic Flare strikes in G3 Killavullan Stakes

Poetic Flare, a son of Dawn Approach, added a first Group win when taking the G3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday, 17 October. Breaking his maiden on debut in March, the two-year-old colt bounced back from a below par run in last week’s G1 Dewhurst to take a comfortable victory under jockey Kevin Manning.

Owned, bred and trained by Jim Bolger, Poetic Flare is closely related to New Approach’s Listed-winning daughter Glamorous Approach out of the Rock Of Gibraltar mare Maria Lee. She is an own-sister to the dam of Listed winner Dubai Sand out of a half-sister to Speirbhean, dam of European Champion two-year-old and Darley stallion Teofilo.

Dawn Approach is the sire of 13 Black Type winners including G1 Derby second Madhmoon and G3 Prix de la Grotte heroine Musis Amica. He is also the sire of six stakes horses this year including G3 Hawkesbury Guineas hero Dawn Passage.
