Manduro’s Scatter Dice lands the Cesarewitch

Brave filly sweeps from last to first to land the time-honoured race

Scatter Dice, from the first crop of Manduro, ran the race of her life at Newmarket on 12 October when recording a remarkable victory in the coveted Cesarewitch, winning by no fewer than three lengths.

The Mark Johnston-trained filly completely missed the break and was some ten lengths adrift early on and was still last after a mile. Progressing to mid-division with half a mile left to run, Scatter Dice hit the front inside the final two and forged clear to win superbly.

This was her fifth career win and her prize money total will now be boosted by some £155,000.

Bred by Darley and owned by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum, she is out of the Falmouth Stakes winner Sensation (Soviet Star), making her a half-sister to multiple Group winner Systematic.

Manduro has been enjoying a very successful year, siring 15 Black type performers including unbeaten G2 winner Charity Line and fellow unbeaten Stakes winners Donna Prassede and Drive To Hell.
