Exceed And Excel is well known for his talented juveniles and on 13 August, his two-year-old daughter Electric Waves became the 21st Black type performer for her sire this year when landing the Listed St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury.
Despite being slowly away, the Ed McMahon-trained filly was soon up with the pace and looked to have plenty in hand at the halfway stage. Ridden along inside the final two furlongs, Electric Waves quickened impressively and landed the five-furlong contest by a length and a half.
Bred by Ms Michelle Lyons, Electric Waves is out of the winning Spectrum mare Radiant Energy, a half-sister to Italian Guineas third and Black type producer Baranja.
