Madhmoon sweeps to G2 victory at Leopardstown

Unbeaten Dawn Approach colt lands Champions Juvenile Stakes in style

Dawn Approach’s two-year-old son Madhmoon, who posted an eye-catching win on his racecourse debut over a mile at Leopardstown last month, proved that he is one to watch in the future on Saturday, 15 September when he ran out the easy winner of the G2 Champions Juvenile Stakes over the same course and distance.

Settled in third position under Chris Hayes, Kevin Prendergast’s charge was pushed along once inside the final two furlongs and taking the lead a furlong from home, was ridden along under hands and heels to win by two and a half lengths.

Madhmoon is owned and bred by Shadwell and is out of the Group-placed Haafhd mare Aaraas, herself a half-sister to the dam of Cape Cross’s G1 Irish Guineas winner Awtaad.

Dawn Approach now has three Black Type performers from his second crop, having also sired Listed winner Second Generation and Group-placed colt Bold Approach this year. G1 fillies Musis Amica and Mary Tudor head his first crop, together with this year’s Scurry Stakes winner Haddaf.
