King’s Best colt battles home for Listed success

Two-year-old Call To Battle wins the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown

King’s Best juvenile Call To Battle looks like a colt with a very bright future following his tough win in the Listed Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown on the final day of the Irish Flat turf season.

Always travelling comfortably in the nine-furlong contest, the John Oxx trainee took the lead in the final furlong and ran home strongly to win by half a length from Alla Speranza, the next best of a well-credentialled field.

Owned and bred by Neil Jones of Abergwaun Farms, Call To Battle hails from a family laced with stamina. He is the first foal of the Sadler’s Wells mare Dance The Classics, a winner at a mile and a half and a sister to Irish Oaks runner-up Roses For The Lady. Their dam Head In The Clouds is the sister of St Leger winner Millenary.

Other talented individuals to be bred on the King’s Best/Sadler’s Wells cross include G1 winner and Darley stallion Creachadoir, Derby and Arc winner Workforce, G2 winner Best Alibi and the G3 winners Cosmo Meadow and Modun. King’s Best, who stands at Haras du Logis in Normandy, is the sire of 42 stakes winners, including six individual G1 winners.
