Kid too slick in Gothic Stakes at Caulfield

Another Stakes victory for second-season sire Harry Angel

A brilliant ride from Hall Of Fame jockey Damien Oliver on Saturday, 21 October helped Harry Angel colt Arkansaw Kid score a narrow win in the Listed Gothic Stakes (1,200m) at Caulfield.

A winner of the Restricted Listed Inglis 2YO Banner at Moonee Valley 12 months ago and placed in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes at Sandown back in February, Arkansaw Kid came from sixth on the fence at the 600m pole before bursting through a gap in the home straight to win narrowly.

The three-year-old edged out Facile and Don Corleone to take his record two wins and one placing from six starts for prize money of $687,750.

Out of the Exceed And Excel mare Florabella, Arkansaw Kid is trained by Ben, Will and JD Hayes at Flemington.

The colt was offered by Sledmere Stud, Scone at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and sold to Lindsay Park Bloodstock for $190,000.

Arkansaw Kid has a two-year-old full-sister, a yearling full-brother and a new half-sister filly foal by Too Darn Hot.

Harry Angel was a leading first-season sire by Stakes winners and now he leads as the sire of second-season individual Stakes winners.

The former G1-winning sprinter has now sired 88 winners of 149 races, including nine Stakes winners of 12 Stakes races.

They include recent G2 Danehill Stakes (Flemington) winner Stretan Angel and Vicious Harry, who won the Listed Prix de Bonneval at Chantilly this month.
