Impressive first Stakes victory for Regional in Listed Achilles Stakes

Territories son sets new course record at Haydock Park

Territories five-year-old son Regional gained a well-deserved first Stakes victory and set a new course record at Haydock Park, when landing the five furlong Listed Achilles Stakes on Saturday, 10 June.

Under Callum Rodriguez the gelding got a flyer out the gates to lead. Trained by Ed Bethall, Regional was soon eased back to sit second until the final stages, he was then unleashed to go clear of the field to post a one and a quarter length victory in the sprint contest and set a new course record of 57.02s.

This was Regional’s second win in as many starts this year, having won at York on his seasonal debut three weeks ago.

Bred by Razza del Sole Societa Agricola Srl, Regional is the second foal out of Italian Stakes-winning mare Favulusa (Dansili), herself a half-sister to G2 Oaks D’Italia heroine Folega and G3 winner Agiato.

Territories is now the sire of 23 Black Type performers. They are headed by multiple G1 winner Rougir and Derby runner up Hoo Ya Mal (last year they sold for €3 million and £1.2m respectively). Territories is also responsible for G2 winner Berkeley Square and Live To Tell who won back to back Stakes races earlier in the year.
