Impressive first Stakes victory for Lazzat

Listed Prix de la Californie win for son of Territories

On his third career start, Lazzat, a three-year-old son of Territories, maintained on the upward curve with an impressive victory to gain his first Black Type win, when landing the 1500m Listed Prix de la Californie at Cagnes-Sur-Mer, France on Sunday, 25 February. The gelding, who made his racecourse debut five weeks ago, remains unbeaten having won his first two starts by a collective total of nine and a half lengths over course and distance.

Trained by Jérôme Reynier, Lazzat was settled to track the leader in second, travelling easily he picked up the lead with 420m to run and from there victory was never in doubt as he pulled clear of the field to post an easy four and a half-length win under a hands and heels ride from Antonio Orani.

Bred by S.A.S. Haras de Montfort Et Preaux, Lazzat is the first foal out of the winning Australia mare, Lastochka, whose dam, Lashyn, is the daughter of G1 1000 Guineas heroine, Sleepytime.

Territories enjoyed a successful 2023, which was headed by his son Regional who struck in the G1 Sprint Cup and also included Group-winners Navajo Peak, Que Tempest, Live To Tell and Master.
