Humidor claims maiden G1 victory in a thrilling finish

Teofilo’s talented son crowned the G1 Australian Cup winner

Teofilo’s son Humidor rallied late to claim the G1 Australian Cup at Flemington on 11 March.

Racing at the tail-end of the field under jockey Damien Lane, the Darren Weir-trained gelding demonstrated a superb turn of foot to power home down the outside of the straight, securing a stunning victory ahead of G1 winner and tough contender Jameka.

This was the second Group win for the consistent four-year-old, who finished second in the G2 Peter Young Stakes and G3 TS Carlyon Cup earlier this year.

Bred by Jomara Bloodstock, Humidor is out of winning Zabeel mare Zalika, who is the dam of four winners from five foals to race and a half-sister to Stakes winner Heart Of The Desert.

Humidor becomes the twelfth G1 winner for his sire Teofilo, who sired 15 individual Stakes winners and seven Group winners last year alone. He joins top performers Palentino, Special Fighter and Quest For More.

Teofilo stands at Kildangan Stud this season at a fee of €40,000, October 1st SLF.
