Heavenly start Down Under for Harry Angel

First runner, first Stakes winner for the World Champion Sprinter

The Australian stud career of former World Champion Sprinter Harry Angel (IRE) kicked off on a brilliant note on Saturday, 22 October when debutant Arkansaw Kid won the Restricted Listed Inglis Banner for two-year-olds over 1,000m at The Valley in Melbourne.

The Ben and JD Hayes-trained Arkansaw Kid improved that record when he overcame a wide run under jockey Damien Oliver to wear down Mexico, with Optune in third place.

The colt was offered by Sledmere Stud at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and sold to Lindsay Park for $190,000.

Interestingly, that was Harry Angel’s first runner in Australia. The Lindsay Park team will see how he pulls up and look for more rich black-type races in the future.

Harry Angel himself won five Stakes races, including two at G1 level, Harry Angel had already created a huge impression with 20 winners from just 49 runners in the Northern Hemisphere.

Arkansaw Kid is the sixth foal of Exceed And Excel mare Florabella and he has a yearling full-sister, while his full-brother was born just three weeks ago.
