Hattan lands Winter Derby

Son of Halling opens his 2008 Stakes account in style

Hattan, a six-year-old son of Dalham Hall resident Halling, kicked off his season in the best possible way on 15 March when recording a convincing victory in the G3 Winter Derby at Lingfield.

Settled in mid-division under Seb Sanders, the Clive Brittain-trained entire made his move with three furlongs left to run and taking the lead inside the final furlong, proved too good for favourite Silver Pivotal who finished two lengths back in second.

This was the second victory at G3 level for Hattan, who runs in the colours of Saeed Manana, and he has also twice been placed at G1 level.

Halling, who sired ten individual Black type performers last year including Royal Ascot winner Boscobel, stands at a fee of £12,000 October 1st terms.

Also on Saturday, first-season sire sensation Exceed And Excel sired his eighth individual winner when Her Excellency obliged first time out at Turffontain in South Africa.
