Harry Angel's daughter beats the boys in the G2 Danehill Stakes, one of eight fillies to achieve this

Three-year-old filly Stretan Angel grabs second Black-Type victory to give sire another feature race success.

Former World Champion Sprinter Harry Angel continued his remarkable success at stud in Australia on Saturday, 7 October when Stretan Angel won the G2 Danehill Stakes over 1,100m at Flemington.

Ridden by Damian Lane and trained at Pakenham by Phillip Stokes, Stretan Angel finished too well for I Am Unstoppable (colt) to win the straight 1,100m event by a head. Don Corleone (colt) was just under two lengths away in third place.

Having only her fourth race start, the three-year-old filly added the Danehill to her victory in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1,050m) at Morphettville in April.

The daughter of Australian mare Sretan (Bernardini) was offered by Raheen Stud in Queensland at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and bought by Stokes and Rick Connolly Bloodstock.

Commenting post-race, trainer Phillip Stokes said:

"I still think she's only at 85%, so it's exciting going into her next run... she' got to go there (the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes on VRC Derby Day) now. It's going to be harder but she's provided she's up to them today (Saturday."

Stretan Angel becomes just the eighth filly to win the G2 Danehill Stakes, a race predominantly taken out by the colts and geldings with The Everest 2022 winner, Giga Kick, taking the G2 last year.

First run in 1982, Stretan Angel joins an illustrious but exclusive list of just eight fillies, a list that includes Catchy (2017), Snitzerland (2012), Black Caviar (2009), Tan Tat De Lago (2007), Dantelah (1997), Wrap Around (1990) and Gin Rhythm (1989).

Her race record now stands at two wins and two placings for prize money of $283,870 returning to date four times her purchase price to connections and holding serious residual value as a broodmare prospect with plenty of racing upside.

Harry Angel was the leading first-season stallion - on runners-to-winners percentage - in Australia last season.

The stallion has already sired eight winners of 10 races in Australia this season and now boasts 85 winners of 143 races worldwide.

Just a few days after Vicious Harry won the Listed Prix de Bonneval (1,100m) at Chantilly, Stretan Angel lifted the stock of Harry Angel to 11 Stakes race wins.
