Happy days on the Rowley Mile for daughters of Dubawi

Laugh Aloud leads all the way to take the Listed Rosemary Stakes, Journey wins the Princess Royal Stakes for the second straight year

Dubawi’s three-year-old daughter Laugh Aloud took the step up to Black type company in her stride at Newmarket on 23 September when leading from pillar to post to win the one-mile Listed Rosemary Stakes.

Smartly away under Robert Havlin, the John Gosden-trained filly (who runs in the Godolphin blue) was content to set the pace throughout and once asked to quicken, the result never looked in doubt as she cruised home to win by two and three quarter lengths. Iffraaj filly Muffri’Ha added valuable Black type to her record by finishing third.

Laugh Aloud has now finished in the first two in five of her six starts, including when she broke her maiden by no fewer than seven lengths at Windsor in July.

She is out of the Group-placed Singspiel mare Opera Comique, making her a half-sister to G1 Arlington Million winner Debussy. Opera Comique is also dam of Cheshire Oaks second Entertainment (by late Darley stallion Halling).

The very next race on the card saw another daughter of Dubawi, this time four-year-old filly Journey, record a front-running victory in the Listed Princess Royal Stakes. Also trained by John Gosden, Journey led all the way under Frankie Dettori to win by three and a quarter lengths and add a second straight win in this race.

Journey won twice at Listed level last year, before rounding off her season with a creditable second in the G1 Fillies' and Mares' Stakes on Champions Day. She will now head back to Ascot and aim to go one better this year.

Owned and bred by George Strawbridge, Journey is out of the G1-winning mare Montare, whose six Black type wins include the Prix Royal-Oak.

Dubawi has now sired 24 individual Black type winners in 2016, headed by G1-winning duo Postponed (currently favourite for next weekend’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe) and Prix Vermeille heroine Left Hand. He has a further 11 Group winners to his name this year.
