Group victory for Teofilo’s Arod

Smart colt cruises to Diomed Stakes win at Epsom

Arod, a four-year-old son of Teofilo, gained a well-deserved first Group success on 5 June with a front-running victory in the G3 Diomed Stakes.

Returning to the course that saw him finish a very creditable fourth in last year’s Derby, Arod was soon in front under Andrea Atzeni and travelling superbly throughout, was never challenged and won by two lengths.

This was the third career win for Peter Chapple-Hyam’s charge, who was last seen finishing third to Dubawi’s star miler Night Of Thunder in the Lockinge – a race where the form is working out very well indeed. He was also placed in the Earl Of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket on his seasonal debut.

Arod was bred by Kabansk Limited and Rathbarry Stud and now runs in the colours of Qatar Racing. He is one of three Black type performers out of the winning Rahy mare My Personal Space and is from the family of multiple G1 winner Annoconnor. Teofilo is enjoying a very successful season, with 22 individual Black type performers to his name already this year, headed by Irish 1,000 Guineas winner
