Great Voltigeur victory for Dubawi’s Yibir

Smart performer sweeps home at York to add a second Group win to his record

Yibir, a three-year-old son of Dubawi, recorded a second Group victory in superb style on Wednesday, 18 August when landing the G2 Great Voltigeur on the opening day of York’s Ebor meeting.

Settled towards the rear of the field under James Doyle, Charlie Appleby’s charge was always travelling well and once asked to quicken, came with a fantastic late run to take the lead a furlong out and eventually won the 12-furlong contest by a length and a quarter.

A trip to the US is now on the cards for Yibir, with a tilt at the Jockey Club Derby cited as a potential target. His previous Group win came in this year’s G3 Bahrain Trophy during July week at Newmarket.

Yibir is out of the multiple Stakes winner Rumh (Monsun), making him a full brother to Dubawi’s three-time G1 winner Wild Illusion, and a half-brother to Stakes-winning filly Really Special (Shamardal).

Dubawi is sire of 23 individual Black Type winners so far in 2021, including 14 horses who have triumphed at Pattern level.
